This Report, which will be presented at IWA Waterloss 2024 in San Sebastian, analyses the
accuracy of the HP-Leakage Detector algorithm. A comparison is made between the data of the
CCAM's Active Leakage Control system (an ALC that has been in operation for over 15 years and complies with the IWA best practices) and the HP-Leakage Detector (HP-LD) pattern-recognition algorithm estimates.
The conclusion is that HP-LD computes losses with an average deviation from CCAM's ALC
less than 10%. Moreover, since HP-LD calculations are based only on the water balance per quarter of an hour, they are much less prone to errors of assessment due to the incorrect choice of
calculation parameters. This advantage is of course enormously amplified in tourist areas and
in metropolitan business areas, with strong variation in the daily number of inhabitants served.
The features of HP-LD allow to make accurate loss estimates, without big initial investments
and even on water networks that are not yet accurately districted, provided that ithe Area water balace is available. In fact, HP-LD is able to estimate losses even in Districts for which no parameters are available (e.g. number of inhabitants
